Is your Apple Pencil not charging? Well, I too have had the same issue just 1 month after punching my very own iPad Pro.
This became so frustrating that I sought out various fixes that worked for me and should hopefully do the same for you.
These fixes will work for the new wireless charging Apple Pencil and also the older version too. Lets begin!
Apple Pencil Not Charging – How To Fix (5 TIPS)
1. Restart Your iPad Pro
If your Apple pencil is not charging wirelessly or via the charge port, a quick restart of your iPad Pro may remove any temporary software glitches causing the pencil not to charge.
For those using an iPad Pro with a home button, press and hold the home button and the power button for 20 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.
For iPad Pros without a home button, you can restart the device by pressing the volume up button for 1 second, then press the volume down button for 1 second. Once done, then press and hold onto the power button for 20 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.
This should hopefully fix the issue!
2. Connect Your Apple Pencil To iPad Pro
If you are using the wireless version of the Apple Pencil, there have been some instances where re-pairing the pencil with the iPad pro can fix the issue.
For those using the plugin version of the Apple Pencil, you can follow the same steps but with the pencil plugged in.
You can do this by follow these steps:
1. Ensure the Apple Pencil is magnetically connected on the right side of the iPad
2. Restart your iPad by following step 1
3. Once restarted, go to Settings > Bluetooth and toggle on
4. While still in Bluetooth settings, press the ℹ️ icon if your Apple Pencil is still connected. Then tap “Forget this device”
5. Once done, remove Apple Pencil then tap back onto iPad and tap “pair device”
6. If nothing pops up, waiting a few minutes for charging then try again
Hopefully this method should get your Apple Pencil charging again!
3. Toggle Bluetooth On/Off
For another fix, there have been some cases where toggling Bluetooth on and off also allows the Apple Pencil to pair and get charged.
You can do this step by sliding up from the bottom of the screen to access the control centre. From there, then toggle bluetooth off and on a few times. This can also be done in Settings > Bluetooth.
4. Clean Charge Port
If you are using an iPad Pro that requires the Apple Pencil to be plugged in for charging, it may be worthwhile to clean your lighting charge port.
This is done as this port can actually build up with dirt and grime which can prevent the Apple Pencil from charging.
To clean this, you can use a toothpick or sim card tool to dislodge any excess build up of dirt.
5. Idle Apple Pencils Issue
If none of the above fixes have worked, your Apple Pencil may be at the end of its life. While they are still relatively new products, there have been some notions that if the Apple Pencil is not being used often, this can actually kill the battery.
Some have said that even 1-2 months of not using the Pencil has caused the battery to die and completely stop working.
If this sounds like you, your Apple Pencil may still be under warranty, so it may be worthwhile going to the Apple store for a free replacement.
Conclusion
If all wen well, hopefully one of these Apple Pencil not charging fixes has worked for you. If they have, please comment down below as to what worked. Also if you have come up with your own fix, please also share as I will likely include it in coming updates to this article. Thanks for reading!

I’ve only just bought my pencil and iPad new. The pencil worked for about a day and how now stopped working and will not charge. None of the above explains this. How do the pencils survive for so long before being purchased? It doesn’t make sense.
