iPhone Screen Has Gone Black and Blank But Still Responding – Fix

There have been numerous reports of iPhone and iPad screens and displays blacking out or just going blank. While the screen goes black the iPhone is still responding with incoming calls, notification sounds and vibrations. This issue tends to arise when the iPhone is dropped or when is used to tough environments. Thankfully there are some simple fixes you can try that will hopefully resolve these problems.

iPhone Screen Has Gone Black Step 1

If you are ever to run into any glitches or temporary bugs on your iPhone it is always recommended to restart it as you would a computer. iPhones don’t have a dedicated restart button so there is a certain command which is holding the power/lock button + home button together for 10 seconds. This will restart the iPhone back up and sometimes can take up to 1 minute. You will not loose any data, contacts, music when doing the restart. This step is successful across all forms for trouble shooting on the iPhone whether it be for sound, camera, display, reception and so on.

iPhone Screen Has Gone Black Step 2

Another successful step that has helped iPhone users with this problem is reconnecting the display connecter in the iPhone itself. Externally you want to squeeze down on the back of the iPhone in the top 1/4 area where the camera and display connectors are found. Pressing down sometimes reconnects the connector as it may have been dislodged while being dropped. You can repeat this step pressing firmly for 30 seconds at a time.

On the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, you perform a hard reset by pressing and holding the volume down button and the power button at the same time until the you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

Thanks a lot ! It worked. My Iphone-6 was having problems with screen display and step 2 worked really well. Since it was a new phone and data was not backed up, I was worried. Once the screen showed up, the first thing I did was to back-up data. Luckily, the phone is also working fine now. Thank you !

#2 worked for my phone!!! Thank you! I was panicky because no store would repair it and said if I shipped it to Apple they would wipe it or send me another phone–I would lose all of my recent pics (I’m backing this phone up now!)

Hallelujah! I’d forgotten about holding down the power/lock and home buttons at the same time. I’ve been babying my ole phone along, intending to keep it until it gasped its final breath. I was afraid that’s what it had done, but now it’s back to normal.

does step 2 work with iphone 7? i dropped my phone and the screen went black; but the phone is still on i am getting haptic feedback from the home button and when someone calls it, itll ring for a few seconds then itll go to voicemail. it also isnt vibrating or notifying me when i plug the charger in but it definitely is charging and powering off

hard resetting the phone just turns it off, but i can turn it back on i tried squeezing it maybe twice. but i am going to repeat step 2 a good amount of more times to hopefully get the display back
