If your iPhone X is not ringing and you are looking for some DIY fixes, you’re in the right place!
In this guide, I will give you 7 awesome fixes which should hopefully get your iPhone X to ring again in no time.
Some other issues you might be encountering that should be fixed by this guide are notification and text sounds coming through, but the iPhone X won’t ring. Also you can hear people on the phone, but it still won’t ring.
Below you will find my iPhone X not ringing solutions that will also work on iPhone Xs and iPhone X Max models.
iPhone X Not Ringing – Fixes & Solutions (7 TIPS)
1. Turn Off Silent Mode
While this is a very obvious fix, it is one that many forget (including myself) about when their iPhone X won’t ring. And that is that the silent switch on the left hand side of the iPhone X is switched on which will show orange.
If this is the case, simply toggle it up to the to the loud position which should hopefully reactivate the the ringer. As an extra step, make sure your iPhone X volume is also turned up.
You can adjust this by opening the control panel and sliding up the volume. Or you can just turn up the iPhone X with the volume rocker buttons.
2. Restart Your iPhone X
If your iPhone X is still not ringing, another great fix is to restart your device. By doing so, you will hopefully remove any temporary glitches that may have occurred to the software of the iPhone.
To restart, you can do a quick press on the volume up button (no longer than a second), then do the same for the volume down button. After that, press and hold onto the power button for 20 seconds.
If done correctly, your iPhone X should begin to restart. This is also an awesome fix to know as it can resolve many other issues that may occur.
3. Turn Off “Do Not Disturb”
Another very popular fix is to turn off “do not disturb” which you may have accidentally turned on. If this is the case, you will not receive any notifications or calls, which will result in your iPhone X not ringing.
To fix this, you can go into your iPhone settings and navigate to “do no disturb”, then simply toggle off.
Alternatively, you can slide up from the bottom of the screen to access the control panel. In there you will see a crescent moon shape. If this is highlighted, it means that “do not disturb” is active. Simply turn this off.
4. Toggle Bluetooth On & Off
While this fix is a bit strange, it seems to be very successful, especially for those that use bluetooth headphones or speakers regularly.
To access bluetooth, this can be done by going into Setting > Bluetooth > Toggle Off/On. This is done as sometimes external devices may still be connected to your iPhone X which will result in the ringing go via the headphones rather than the speaker.
If the toggle on/off does not work for you, you can also just leave the bluetooth off can then see if your iPhone X will ring with volume.
5. Reconnect iPhone X Speaker
Even though iPhones are extremely well made, there can still be hardware problems that can arise from time to time.
One particular issue that seems to be quite prevalent is the iPhone X speaker disconnecting, which will result in the iPhone X not being able to ring.
To try and fix this, simply press firmly and hold onto the bottom right hand corner of your iPhone X. This is done to try and reconnect the speaker to the battery. You won’t have to worry about the left hand side as that is where the mic is located.
6. Clean iPhone X Charge Port
If your iPhone X is still not ringing, another great method is to actually clean the charging/ lighting connector port.
This is done as this area can become very dirty and fill up with dust and lint which can actually cover the connectors. This results in the iPhone thinking there are headphones connected.
To clean the port, I would recommend using a toothbrush or a sim card tool to thoroughly get in there and dislodge any unwanted dirt. You also may have to do this quite thoroughly as dirt can built up in the bottom corners of the port.
7. Apply Heat To Speaker
Moving onto another strange fix and that is to apply some heat to your iPhone X. This is done as water and moisture can actually build up within the iPhone X which can cause the speaker to malfunction or become muffled.
So if you have dropped your iPhone in some fluid or live in a humid climate, this may be to blame.
To remove this potential excess moisture, you can use a hairdryer to gently hover it over the iPhone on low heat. I have done this for 2-3 minutes on low heat which has actually worked.
Bonus Step: Visit Your Local Apple Store
If your iPhone X won’t ring even after trying all these methods, it may be a more serious hardware problem. If this is the case, your iPhone might still be under warranty as they are a relatively new device which may still be covered un Apple warranty.
