Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to try and get your iPhone X back up and running in no time. Below are some really useful fixes that should hopefully fix the iPhone X not turning on issue.
These fixes should also work for iPhone Xs and iPhone X Max
These solutions are arranged by the most successful so you can get going as fast as possible.
iPhone X Not Turning On – Fixes & Solutions
1. Force Restart Your iPhone X
If for some reason your iPhone X is not turning on, there is a possibility of a software glitch which can happen from time to time.
So instead of normally turning on your iPhone X, you will instead want todo a force restart. This is done by quickly pressing the up volume button, then moving onto quickly pressing the down volume button.
From there, then press and hold onto the power button for AT LEAST 20 seconds. Many guides say 10 seconds, but I have found better success when doing it for a longer period of time.
This should hopefully restart your iPhone if it has gotten a black screen, crashed or is not turning on. Keep note that this method will not delete in data on your iPhone.
From experience, this tip works 80% of the time.
2. Try & Update iPhone From iTunes
The next thing to try is updating to the latest version of iOS via iTunes. Simply connect your iPhone X via a lighting connecting cable to your chosen laptop or computer.
If you don’t already have iTunes installed, you will need to download it first so your iPhone can be recognised by the software.
As an extra step, make sure you are using a working charge cable that isn’t frayed as it might actually not be charging or connecting to your iPhone.
Once the iPhone is connected, iTunes should then hopefully recognise your iPhone with a popup on your computer. If this does happen, it means there is still life in your iPhone X and it may be a broken screen issue.
Keep note, it is best to keep iPhone connected to for around 30 minutes for it to reboot if it hasn’t already.
If your iPhone is still not turning on, it may be best to visit Apple themselves as your phone might still be under warranty which is 2 years.
3. Check Your Charger
If your iPhone X is still not turning on, it also might be your charging cable or adapter that might be faulty. If it is, it may give you the idea that your iPhone is maybe broken as it won’t turn on. But in reality, it is just flat!
For some obvious signs, have a look out for a frayed cable or a split connecter. Also, if you are using a ripoff cheap version, these are also very susceptible to breaking.
For some trouble shooting, try and plug in another iPhone to your charge cable to see if it charges. Alternatively, plug your iPhone X into another cable and see if it turns on or needs some power.
Also, try and move your cable and adapter to another power socket as sometimes a power board or socket also may be malfunctioning.
4. Clean Your iPhone Charge Port
Continuing on from the above method, it is also worthwhile to clean your iPhone X as it may be full of dirt, grime and fluff which will prevent the phone from turning on.
This again can give the representation that your iPhone X won’t turn on, when it might instead be flat.
To clean the chart port, I recommend using a toothbrush or a wooden toothpick to gently get the fluff and lint out of the charge port.
As our iPhones are in our pockets and back packs mostly, they can quickly become dirty. So you might be surprised to see how much dirt you get our of your iPhone! Just be gently when doing this as you are tampering with an electronic device.
5. Press & Hold The Corners Of The Screen
Ok, so this is a bit of a weird step, but there have been several reports of this actually working. So it is worth a try.
The first thing you want todo is press and hold one corner of your iPhone at a time for about 30 seconds each. This is done as sometimes the connectors of the display might actually come loose.
If this is to happen, a simple firm press and hold and reconnect the screen and get your iPhone x to turn on!
6. Visit An Apple Store
If you are reading this in 2019 or even 2020, there are chances that your iPhone X will still be covered under the included Apple warranty. If you are, they will be able to replace your screen or device if it still under warranty. This will save you hundreds if you avoid a third party provider.
7. Rage Quit
If all else fails, feel free to try the below step. Not endorsed!
