If your iPhone X won’t charge, it really is one of the most frustrating things. First world problems right?
But seriously, not having access to your iPhone X because it won’t charge is bad for a multitude of reasons. Luckily for you, I have created this guide with various fixes and solutions so you can get your iPhone X charging again.
This includes methods for both wireless and cable charging.
These steps are also arranged by what seems to work the best. So it is best to follow these fixes step by step. Also, these fixes will work for iPhone Xs and iPhone X Max.
iPhone X Won’t Charge – Fixes & Solutions (9 Fixes)
1. Hard Restart Your iPhone
When it comes to having any software of hardware issues on an iPhone, it is always best to restart it. Just like when you restart a computer or laptop, the same applies to an iPhone.
Todo this, you first want to press the volume up button for 1 second, then quickly press the down volume button for 1 second. Once done, quickly press and hold onto the power button for 20 seconds.
After you have done this, your iPhone X should restart which will remove any temporary glitches that may have been causing your iPhone X not to charge.
Note: this step won’t delete any data on your iPhone so you won’t have to worry about that.
2. Clean Your iPhone Charge Port With a Toothbrush/ Toothpick
Ok, so this one is a bit weird, but it is incredibly successful in getting an iPhone X to charge again.
As we typically have your cellphones in our pockets for a lot of the time, the charge port can become very dirty and fill up with fluff, lint, grime and dirt.
When this does happen, you will have to clean your iPhone charge port which can be done with a toothbrush, wooden toothpick or even a sim card tool. I find a toothpick or pointy object is best as it allows to easily dislodge any dirt that may be loaded in the corners of the port.
There have also been reports that q-tips work quite well.
Just be warned that you may be surprised as to how much dirt can accumulate in such a little area so you may have to do this multiple times.
Also, be extra careful as you are working with an electronic device, so be gentle and try at your own risk.
3. Check Your Charger Cable & Adapter
Another way to fix the iPhone X not charging issue is to troubleshoot your iPhone charger and adapter. As we know, iPhone charges tend to fray and break overtime like the photo above.
If this is the case, there is a strong possibility that your cable is simply not working which won’t charge your iPhone. To see if this is the case, try using a friend or families cable to see if it is the cable at fault.
Also, if you are using a cheap $2 knockoff iPhone lighting cable, these have a very short life and can have many internal problems that cannot be seen. So it is best to invest in an authentic Apple product.
4. Try a Different Power Outlet
If your iPhone X won’t charge after trying the above steps, try and move your iPhone charger to a different power outlet as the one you are using may be faulty.
Also, if you are using a power board, these can sometimes become overloaded which can cause the board to trip as a safety precaution.
If possible, try and prevent using a power board and just plugin into an individual power socket.
5. Remove Case If Using a Wireless Charger
For those that are using an iPhone X with a wireless charger, remove your iPhone case (if you have one) and then restart your iPhone doing step 1.
This should hopefully fix your iPhone X charging issues if it is not working a wireless charger. The case also may be at fault as it is not allowing for a proper connection. So a new case may have to be purchased.
If this is still not working, you can again try step 3 and 4 to see if your wireless charger is not working or if it is a power outlet.
6. Blow Into Your iPhone X Charge Port
Ok, this is another strange one, but this has surprisingly had some good success when reading in the forums and watching YouTube videos.
If you ever used a Nintendo 64 or Sega, you’ll then be aware of this fix. What you want todo is blow fiersly into the iPhone X charge port. This is done to try and dislodge any dirt, dust or lint that may have built up on the connectors.
I have found this works best when your do several bursts of blowing which should remove the dust.
7. Insert & Remove Charger Multiple Times
Yep, here is another strange fix for you. What you want todo is insert your lighting charging cable into the phone then quickly remove it.
You’ll then want to repeat this process 10-15 times repeatedly inserting the cable then removing it. This is done as a continuation of the above step to remove any access dirt of grime that may have accumulated on the charging connectors.
While it does sound very strange, this does seem to actually work when the iPhone X won’t charge.
8. Update Your iOS
While this step is a bit more hit and miss, in some instances, updating your iPhone iOS can actually be an effective fix. This is done as sometimes there are bugs or glitches in the software which can cause the malfunction.
9. Visit Your Local Apple Store
If you are a recent purchaser of an iPhone X, it actually may still be under the free Apple warranty in which they will fix the iPhone for you free of charge.
10. Ultime Destruction
If you are fed up with your iPhone, you can always try the below method 😜.
If any of these fixes or solutions have worked for you, please let me and others what you did as you will be helping others to fix their iPhones. Thanks for reading and also keep tuned for more updates as I plan on updating this article in the future.
