Based on 2019 rankings, LG is among the top five major brands producing the best quality television sets. Having the most promising collection of OLED television options on their shelves, LG is a leading manufacturer of the most sought-after TV’s, boasting minimal input lag and outstanding picture quality.
However, if your recent purchase of an LG set has left you worried about issues with its sound, do not fret as there are a few things that you can try at home before you panic over your TV’s warranty coverage.
Here are a few simple remedies you can use to fix the issue of LG Tv no sound issue.
LG Tv no sound – How to fix (9 Tips)
1. Try a Complete Hard Reboot
Sometimes, the simplest solution is to attempt a hard reboot.
Follow the steps below to give your LG TV set a hard reboot:
- Unplug the power cord of the television from the main supply. It doesn’t matter much if the TV set is turned on or not, but turning it off before you attempt a hard reboot is a much healthier option for your TV.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Plug your power cord back into the main supply.
- Press the power button to turn the TV on.
- Check if the sound has returned.
If the sound still doesn’t return, try a hard reboot on all the other devices that are connected to your television set. Restart the cable box, the satellite tv – anything that is connected to your television set.
2. Check the audio settings
Sometimes, the issue that is stopping your LG TV from producing any sound is bad audio settings on the TV set.
- Open the TV menu by pressing the “Home” button
- Select on the option that says “Sound”
- The following provides the name of each of the options the display will show and what they depict:
- Internal TV speaker (this is the default option)
- Audio Out (If you have connected external audio devices with an optical cable or an HDMI ARC )
- LG Sound Sync (If you have connected an LG Sound Sync audio product with an optical cable)
- Audio Out (If you have connected external audio decide with a stereo cable)
- Wired Headphones (If you are using wired headphones)
Depending on the issue that you have, make sure that your configurations have been correctly set and the sound has not accidentally been turned off.
Other settings that you can check in the same menu bar is:
- Check that the TV is not configured to SAP and that the TV is receiving the correct input.
- Check if the “aux” input has not been selected.
3. Reset the audio/video settings
If the configurations are proving too difficult to make sense of and you wish to reset the audio-video settings to the default AV settings, follow these steps:
- Press the Mute button on your TV remote three times. A popup screen should emerge on your TV display
- Press ‘Confirm’ on the popup.
4. Reset to default factory settings
If the audio settings reset didn’t work, a complete factory reset can help solve the issue.
- Press the “Home” button on your remote
- Proceed to the settings menu by pressing on the “cog” icon displayed on the top-right corner of your TV screen
- Press the option that says “General”
- Click on the option that says “reset to initial settings”.
Depending on your LG device, the steps that follow after you press the “reset to initial settings” might differ. However, your TV set will guide you with a step by step process to complete the execution of a complete machine reset.
5. Install any pending updates:
Pending updates can sometimes be a nuisance and create problems in your settings, therefore causing issues like your LG TV’s no sound issue. By installing the latest firmware on your device, you can revert any side effects that the previous software version is producing.
- Press the “home” button to view the main menu
- Proceed to the settings menu by pressing on the “cog” icon displayed on the top-right corner of your TV screen
- Choose the option that says “All settings” at the bottom of your display
- From the left, choose the option that says “General Menu”
- At the bottom of the list, you’ll see an option that reads “About this TV”
- From here, check if you’ve allowed the option for “Allow automatic updates”.
- Click on the “Check for updates option”
- If an update is waiting to be installed, click install and follow the steps on your LG TV to download the latest firmware and install it.
6. Check your Audio Channels
The issue might not be based on your software and might be erupting from an incorrect allocation of the audio channels. Audio Channels are different audio output devices that have been connected to your TV. You can check to see if the TV’s sound is being directed to a buggy audio channel.
- Check if the audio cable has been disconnected or become loose.
- Check if you haven’t recently connected an “S” video cable. These cables are solely for transmitting visual information and do not produce any sound. So, make sure that an audio cable has also been connected.
- If you’re using an HDMI cable, try replacing it.
7. Check the settings of your connected devices:
If you’re using a satellite box or are connected to a cable box, these devices often have internal settings of their own. A quick check on the sound settings of these devices can help in confirming if your LG TV’s no sound problem is caused by your TV or if the issue resides elsewhere.
- First, disconnect these devices and try running a cold check on just the internal speakers of your TV.
- If the internal speakers are working OK, then proceed to check the sound settings of each of the connected devices.
8. Try using external audio systems
If the internal speakers are not working, it is a good idea to try and connect external audio output devices to get the sound back.
- Connect the sound cables to the sound system instead of the television set.
- Turn the surround sound on
- See if the external speakers produce any sound.
9. LG support
The above methods all tried to mitigate an external or software caused problem that is restricting the audio on your device. However, even after connecting external audio devices, you are unable to hear anything from your TV, there is a chance that there is a problem with the amplifier IC on the main board of your TV.
Here are a few things you can do if you’re seeking official support:
- Proceed to https://www.lg.com/us/support which is the official support page on the LG website.
- Request repair. If you are worried about your warranty, you can also access the warranty information from the above link after typing in your warranty information
- Find a service center that is closest to you.
We hope that these tips help solve the issue of lack of audio from your TV set and will refrain from the problem from coming back up again.

Thank you, thank you! Number 3 worked for me too. After spending over 3 days going crazy(trying the different HDMI PORTS, plugging and unplugging). It took less then 2 minutes using #3.
