Samsung Galaxy No Sound or Speaker Problem/ Issues – How to Steps, Solutions, Fixes
If you have no sound on or your sound has suddenly stopped your Samsung Galaxy S / S2 / S3 / S4 / S5 / S6 / S6 / S7 / S8/ S9 / S10 / Note and Note Plus it can be a huge annoyance as you most probably already know.
Below you will find solutions and fixes that I have gathered and come up with. If you have any other solutions that have worked for you please share them below as it all helps.
The symptoms of Samsung Galaxy no sound Problem/ Issues include:
– Samsung Galaxy will ring but speaker will not work for anything else
– Samsung Galaxy no sound at all for calls, apps, music etc
– Samsung Galaxy as stuck in headphone mode
So how do we fix the Samsung smartphone sound and speaker problems?
Follow these steps and hopefully your Samsung Galaxy will be back to its prior glory.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 1,
The silent/ vibrate switch is turned on, to check you can either use the drop down menu by simply sliding your finger from the top of the screen downwards. In the drop down menu you will find various options such as wi-fi, screen brightness and so on. Slide over to the button with the speaker icon and switch to loud mode.
Another way is by going into the settings > sound > volume. Once your in that setting you can adjust the volume for music, ringtones and notifications.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 2,
Restart the Samsung Galaxy. Hold onto the power button on the right side if the phone for 2 seconds, a prompt will come up to turn off device, airplane mode or restart device. Press the restart option and wait for the phone to restart, hopefully this will eliminate any glitches which may have been causing the problem.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 3,
Insert your headphones into the headphone jack then take them out. Continue to do this for a couple of minutes as sometimes the phone tricks its self into thinking its in headphone mode. Also by doing this step you are likely to dislodge any dust or dirt build up that also may be causing this issue.
You can also watch this video with full list of solutions and fixes!
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 4,
Make sure your Samsung Galaxy has the latest software update, to check go into settings > about device > software update > check for updates. Download the most recent update for your phone if there is one. Depending on your carrier and device different updates will be released at various times.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 6
This step is a bit strange but a lot of these are. Similar to cleaning the headphone jack this one applies to the charging dock of the phone. If there was to be any dirt, grime or fluff in the charging dock it may be causing a bad conection which may result is charging and sound issues.
This can cause the sound to not work as the phone my think it is attached to a music dock or station. A very good way to clean the dock is to find an old toothbrush or similar tool and brush out the dock. You can try this for a few minutes in a gentle manner. It is surprising how mush dirt you fill find.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 7
There has been some problems with sound due to moisture being in the phone or around the speaker. You can remove this moisture by turning the phone off, removing the battery and sim card and placing it in a container of rice for 24 hours.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 8
Similar to the above step with moisture being captured in the Samsung Galaxy you can remove the residue or moisture by waving a hair dryer on low heat over the phone. This is another strange step but has been found to be very successful.
When waving the hair dryer over the phone ensure that it is on the lowest heat setting and is a fair distance from the phone to prevent it from heating to much. You only have to do this step for about a minute at a time to prevent over heating.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 9
There have been many reported problems and issues arising after connection a Samsung Galaxy device to a bluetooth device. Even though the connection has been aborted there still seems to be a ghost connection which is causing problems when trying to play back sound on the device. Simply to fix this you have to turn the bluetooth off Settings > toggle off.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 10
Similar to the above step, another process it to also toggle the wi-fi on and off. By doing so, you are restarting any connection between the smartphone and any wifi related speakers or devices.
Samsung Galaxy No Sound Step 11
Contact your provider or place of purchase as it may be a hardware issue and will need to be repaired or replaced. Since there can be faults with he Samsung Galaxy it may be a one off flaw and can be replaced or fixed.
Bonus Tip
Many have also stated that by deleting the apps on their phone, this has also fixed the problem. This of course can be a pain todo, so if doing, try deleting 1 app at a time and then seeing if the sound is back on.
If any of these solutions or fixes worked for you or if you tried something different please share down blew. A great place to start is in the comment sections below where there are also more tips on how uses have fixed their samsung phones.

it shoud have been earlier on the list. Still a good article.

I use accessibility in settings often to change to reverse colors under vision. I just discovered my lack of sound was due from accidently going under hearing instead of vision. I had hit the button to turn off all sounds! I switched that back off and all my sounds are back!

I have samsung s3 mini version. When I lilisten to songs in maximum volume for some time (like 15minutes) the phone automatically reduces the sound and I cant increase it. It automatically fixes itself like within a week, but I should not connect my earphones untill that. If I do, the time taken to be fixed gets longer.

My Samsung G5 quit producing all sound. No notifications sounds, no alarm, no video sound and when trying to make a call I could not hear the person on the other end although they could hear me. My phone had lost the ability to make any sound at all. The phone was not on silent mode and all the various sound settings were set at an appropriate volume. I tried taking the battery and cards out and rebooting but no luck. I had several phone conversations with people at SamSung and TMobile– with no luck. Eventually I went to “settings” and then went to “Accessibility” and from there to “Hearing” and found that the “Turn off all Sounds” option had been somehow been activated. I simply unchecked it and the sound immediately came back.

No sound when played media or made phone call (except when select hands free).
Tried all the steps except for rice (step 7) I instead laid the phone on top of my pc monitor.
Then tried connecting the earphone just before I switched it on.
Came good.

I tried everything and I was ready to give up my phone. I was starting to take the phone apart and noticed the little whole on the top right of the phone. I stuck a paper clip in there and it seemed to reset the phone, I got sound back! Try this if nothing else works!

For my S6 I couldn’t hear phone calls — they were very low. I had to put people on speaker to hear them (which isn’t always viable). I went to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing, and turned on “Hearing aids.” It boosted the volume loud enough (with my call volume on max) that I can actually hold a conversation without turning on speaker mode. Not the best solution — but the price is right.

Here’s my solution. Keep in mind I spent a few hours trying all of the other solutions, pressing the build button, using developer options, removing bluetooth devices and on and on. What I realized is that a few weeks ago of course the phone never had the problem. So, if the problem is somewhat recent then the choices are hardware or software. And sense no one is stating that they’ve actually found hardware problems except for the guy whose phone reduces volume when he shakes it, then the problem must be 90% software. So first I confirmed my suspicions in Safe Mode. Noting that the problem did not exist there led me to believe the issue was due to applications. I used the process of elimination (POE) wherein I removed 1 application at a time then attempted to use Youtube or other video products. I recorded all the applications beforehand just to make sure I didn’t delete something then not remember it. So, after about an hour I found that the Transparent Weather and Forecast application along with the AI Keyboard alternatives were to blame. Here’s why…each of these applications I like and have used for some time. The process is that if say you want the forecast for the week you open the application. It does exactly what you want and gives you the information. The real problem comes when you want to close the window. The moment you close the window it immediately opens a new window which is an “AD”. The ad will automatically play so you have no control over it. The only option you have is to close it or watch it until it ends. The AI Keyboard is the same exact way. When making changes everything is find, however, when closing the window it opens into an ad which you are forced to close.
These ads were opening randomly at all hours of the night. I kept wondering why I couldn’t sleep and realized that my phone is about 2 feet from my head near my bed. At night the phone would randomly play ads waking me during precious sleeping hours. In addition these apps would cause Youtube to freeze and would affect the sound quality of the video. The sound would also randomly drop out and pick up again very loudly. One last thing the bad actors also affected my clock which was set to go off at 1:30 AM for a business trip. The phone never went off until 4:00 AM and since I was driving some 250 miles away for a 9 AM appointment south of LA I was forced to reschedule. That was the incentive to get this thing resolved.
So, after removing the offending applications my phone runs like new. Now I have to figure out a non-offensive weather app and start bringing back all those apps that were not responsible for the problem.
Hope this helps someone.
