For the past 3 years, every flagship device from Samsung has been in the range of $900-1000 USD.
So, it’s understandable to be frustrated when your Samsung tablet suddenly stops producing sound without any reason.
Don’t worry, though. I’m going to walk you through a list of troubleshooting options to help you fix your Samsung tablet’s no sound issue. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
Samsung Tablet No Sound – Solutions & Fixes (7 Tips)
1. Reboot your tablet
This is an easy one to start with. A reboot can help fix any temporary glitches and reset the device back to a working state. That’s why it’s also called a ‘soft reset’. Here are the steps to reboot a Samsung tablet.
- Unlock your tablet
- Press and hold the power button
- Wait for a power menu to pop up on your screen
- Now you will see three options
- Power
- Restart
- Emergency Mode
- Tap on the Power button on your screen
- The device will ask you to confirm whether you really want to turn your tablet off. Confirm by tapping on the Power button.
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Press and hold the Power button until you feel a vibration in your device or Samsung’s logo pop’s up on the screen.
- Wait for the tablet to fully turn on
- Check your sound.
If rebooting your tablet solved the issue of no sound, you’re done. Congratulations! If the issue is still there, move on to the next step.
2. Check for software updates
Sometimes, a new device might have a buggy software that could be causing issues with its sound. Samsung is known to quickly resolve such issues through frequent software updates.
So, it’s possible that there’s an update already available that will fix the no sound issue with your tablet. Here’s how to update your Samsung tablet’s software.
- From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon
- Tap Settings
- Scroll to and tap About device
- Tap Update Samsung Software
- Tap Check now
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts
- Otherwise, tap the Home icon
- The tablet is now up to date
Updating your software has a lot of other benefits too. It can bring your device’s security up to date, fix any other bugs that Samsung has found in their software and improve your device’s health overall.
3. Check audio settings
When you install a new application or update your tablet’s software, the audio settings on your device can get altered.
If your Samsung tablet’s no sound issue is not fixed even after installing updates, bad audio settings could be the cause. Here’s how you can check your tablet’s audio settings.
- From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon
- Tap Settings
- Scroll to and tap Sound & Vibrations
- Tap Volume
- To adjust the volume level, drag the slider left or right.
- Check the volume for all the options available i.e., Ringtone, Media, Notifications, System
- Go back to the settings menu
- Scroll to and tap Accessibility
- Tap Hearing enhancements
- Make sure that the Mute all sounds options are turned off.
You’re done! Hopefully, that fixed your tablet’s no sound issue. Not yet? No worries. Let’s move on to the next step.
4. Turn off Bluetooth
This one is a silly mistake that all of us have made at least once. We connect to external speakers or earbuds through Bluetooth but then forget about it. After a while, when we check our phone and there’s no sound! Here’s how to fix this.
- From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon
- Tap Settings
- Tap Connections
- Tap on the Bluetooth switch to turn it off
Turning off your Bluetooth ensures that you’re not connected to an external audio output that is stealing away your tablet’s sound.
5. Boot into Safe Mode
Safe Mode is a special “safe” state that your software remembers to check for issues that may be caused by third-party applications that you install. So, if a new app that you’ve installed is causing the no sound issue on your Samsung tablet, booting the device into safe mode would help you identify and root it out.
- Turn off your tablet as described above in Step 1 ‘Reboot your tablet’
- Wait at least 30 seconds
- Press and hold the Power button until you see the Samsung logo on the screen
- As soon as you see the Samsung logo pop up on screen, let go of the Power button and press and hold the Volume down button
- Hold the volume down button until the device is fully on and you can see Safe Mode written on the bottom left corner
Now, test your device’s sound. If the issue has been resolved, it was caused by an app that you may have recently downloaded. One by one, remove the apps you’ve installed recently and check the sound. This way you can root out the problem app and get your tablet’s sound back.
6. Plugin your Headphone Jack
This is a neat little trick that can help you fix the no sound issue on your tablet. Sometimes, when you plug in your headphone jack and then pull it out, it doesn’t unplug properly. That means your device think that it is still connected to a headphone jack.
The device continues to throw all of your audio output at the headphone jack even though it’s not there anymore. In other words, the sound is not being directed to your tablet’s onboard speakers. In such cases, you can also see a tiny little headphone icon in your notification bar at the top.
Plugin your headphone jack and unplug it over and over until the headphone icon in your notification bar disappears. Check the tablet’s sound again and confirm if the issue has been resolved.
7. Factory Reset
If none of the options discussed above solved your Samsung tablet’s no sound issue, a factory reset maybe your last and only option short of taking the device to a repairs shop. A factory reset takes your phone back to the state that it was in when it was first turned on.
That means you will lose all your data (Documents, Photos, Videos, Applications). Which is why it very important that you take a backup of your device’s data before trying a factory reset.
- Turn off your phone as described in Step 1 ‘Reboot your tablet’
- Wait at least 30 seconds after turning it off
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons simultaneously until you see the Samsung logo on the screen
Here, you will see a bunch of different options that might seem scary. Read the following instructions carefully to execute a successful reset safely.
- Use the Volume up and down buttons to scroll up and down
- Highlight the option that says Wipe data/factory reset
- Press the Power button to select this option
- The device will ask you to confirm your selection. Use the Power up and down buttons to highlight the correct option and press the Power button to select it
- Your device will reboot now. If it doesn’t, it may ask you if you’d like to turn off the phone or reboot the system
- Select Reboot the system with the Power button
- Wait for the phone to turn back on and check the sound
Hopefully, your Samsung tablet’s no sound issue is resolved now. However, if the issue persists after you’ve tried all of the proposed solutions, the problem may not lie in your software but rather in the hardware. Contact Samsung customer support or your local repairs shop for further advice.
