What happens if your Tile is not working though? How do you fix it?
Well, in this guide, I will cover 7 DIY fixes that you can try to get your Tile device working again. If you have come up with your own fix, also please share down in the comments below 🙂.
Tile Not Working – How To Fix (7 TIPS)
1. Tile cannot be activated
The Tile is a small device that is Bluetooth enabled. Bluetooth is what allows the Tile to find your phone, and your phone to find your tile. You can’t find anything until you can activate the Tile. There are several reasons why this may happen.
- First, you need to press the “Tile” button for 1 second.
- Press firmly and hold for the entire second, and then release. The Tile will play a tune, indicating it is now ready for activation.
- Download the Tile App and open it.
- Turn your phone’s Bluetooth on.
- Use the App to connect to the Tile and register it.
If the Tile was a gift, or if you bought it second hand, you may need to call the person you got it from and ask them to transfer the Tile to you.
If that doesn’t work, restart your phone by turning it off and then back on, turn on your Bluetooth and try again.
2. Tile cannot be found
Sometimes you could be standing right next to the Tile and it is still not finding it. There are several reasons this could happen, but luckily there are easy ways to fix it.
- First, start by updating the app on your phone. Do this by visiting your devices app store and opening the Tile app and searching for updates.
- Next, update the software of your phone. This may fix any connectivity issues your phone may be experiencing.
- Wait a few moments for the updates to finish installing. Restart your phone. The Tile should now connect.
- If the tile does not connect, you may want to try to uninstall and reinstall the app.
- To do this, open up your settings and click on “Apps”. Choose “Tile”.
- Select the option to uninstall the app. Now go to your App Store and reinstall the Tile App.
- Turn the phone off and back on. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Open the App and wait a few moments. The Tile should be found.
3. “Find” button not working
The “Find” button only shows as available when the Tile is in range. What happens if you push the “Find” button, but your Tile does not ring?
- The first step will be to refresh the Tile by pushing the “Tile” button.
- Next, check the Tile app for updates. If there are any available updates, install them.
- Next, check your phone’s software for updates. If there are any available, install them.
- Now you will turn your phone off and back on.
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Reopen the Tile app and hit the “Find” button again. This should work.
- If it does not work, press and hold the Tile button to test whether the phone rings or not.
- If this does not work, contact customer service.
4. Pressing the “Tile” button is not working
If the “Tile” button is not working, you may be having some basic connectivity issues.
- The first step to take is to close the Tile app out completely.
- Now turn the Bluetooth off and back on.
- Now reopen the Tile app. Try to push the Tile button again.
- If this does not work, turn your phone off. Leave it off for several minutes and turn it back on.
- Now connect the Bluetooth and open the Tile app and try again.
5. Tile showing an incorrect location
The first thing to do when your Tile is showing an incorrect location is to update the software on both the phone and the Tile app. New software updates will fix any bugs.
- The next step is to check your phone’s location settings.
- Access your phone’s settings menu and find “Location”.
- Ensure that the Tile app has all of the location permissions checked “Enabled”.
- Now check your phone’s battery saving settings. If the battery saving mode is set to max or has “Limit location” turned on, this may be inhibiting the phone from updating the Tile location.
- Once this is all finished, turn your phone off and back on again.
- Restart the Tile app. Try again.
6. The Tile will not work at all in either direction
If the tile will not work at all, then there is a good chance the battery is dead or the Tile has been damaged in some way. Tile batteries last an average of 12 months, although they may not last the full 12 months if they are used more often than what is considered average.
If you press the tile button and it makes no sound, or if you have attempted to find it from your phone in every possible way, the battery being dead or the Tile being damaged is the most obvious answer.
Check the tile for any breaks, bends, or chips. Make sure that it is not damaged in any way. If it has not been 12 months, and the battery is already dead, call customer service or go online to contact Customer Support.
7. Contact Customer Service
The Tile is a great tracker for daily items that need finding. In most cases, updating the Tile app and restarting your phone will fix any bugs. If none of the tips in this article are working it may be time to contact Tile Customer Support. You can do this by app or website.
Contact through the website at https://tileteam.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
Contact through the app by clicking on the gear icon that appears in the corner of your Tile App. This will bring you to the SMS texting feature.
