If your iPhone X has no sound, it can be an extremely frustrating situation. You won’t get notifications, you’ll miss phone calls and you won’t be able to watch any videos.
Some other issues you may be coming across is that the speaker ear piece will work, but nothing else.
Luckily for you, there are several fixes and solutions on how to fix the iPhone X no sound which should hopefully remedy this issue.
This list is arranged by the most successful tips to the ones that work the least. They also work for iPhone Xs and iPhone X Max.
iPhone X Has No Sound – How To Fix (9 TIPS)
1. Check Silent/ Loud Switch
Ok, so this tip is super obvious, but many times users (including myself) forget about the loud/silent switch on the left hand side of the iPhone X.
If your switch is on the orange side, simply toggle it back to the other side which will then enable the loud mode of your iPhone X.
Also, for another obvious step, press and hold the up button to ensure the iPhone is turned up. Alternatively, slide up from the bottom of the scree and slide up the volume in the control centre.
2. Restart Your iPhone X
If your iPhone X still has no sound, another great tip is to restart your iPhone X. Restarting is different from just turning it off and on again as it is more likely to remove any temporary software glitches.
To restart your iPhone X, start off but clicking the volume up button for 1 second followed by clicking the volume down button for 1 second. Once done, then click and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
After this, the iPhone X will show an Apple icon and then restart which should hopefully fix the no sound issue. This step will not delete in data on your iPhone either.
3. Insert & Pull Out Headphones
For those that use headphones often, sometimes the iPhone X can think that headphones are still connected. This will result in the iPhone playing sounds via headphones that aren’t really there.
To remedy this, you can insert your lighting headphones into the charge port and then quickly remove them. Try doing this 10-15 times which will hopefully remove the iPhone X no sound glitch.
4. Turn Bluetooth Off
Another great fix is to turn off your Bluetooth within the iPhone X. This is done as sometimes your iPhone X will still be connected to Bluetooth headphones or speakers. In same cases, there still may be a ghost connection.
To fix this, simply turn off your Bluetooth which can be done in Settings > Bluetooth > Toggle Off. Alternatively, slide up from the button of the screen to the control panel. Then deselect the Bluetooth icon.
For an extra step, there have also been reports that toggling the Bluetooth on and off multiple times also works.
5. Make Sure “Do Not Disturbed” Is Turned Off”
For those that have “do no disturb” turned on, this will of course make your iPhone not have any sound of notifications or phone calls.
To turn it off, simply goto Settings > Do Not Disturb > Toggle Off.
6. Push The Bottom Right Hand Corner Of The iPhone X
Ok, so this fix is a bit strange, but it has been shown to work for older iPhones and even the newer iPhone X models.
So what you want todo is press and hold on the the bottom right hand corner of the iPhone for about 30 seconds. This is where the external speaker is which can actually become disconnected from the battery resulting in no sound.
You won’t have to worry about the left hand side as that is where the microphone is. This is a strange fix, but it surprisingly has a lot of success.
7. Clean Your iPhone X Charge Port
Another great fix for the iPhone X no sound is to clean the charge port. This is done as the port can fill with dirt, fluff, dust and lint which can block the iPhones connectors.
This can sometimes give a false positive that headphones are connected which results in no sound.
To fix this, you will have to clean the charger port which can be done by using a toothbrush, wooden toothpick, sim card tool or even a q-tip.
There can be a lot of built up of grime, so you may need to get into the corners quite thoroughly to remove the dirt. You also may be surprised to how much can be built over time. This can dirt build up can also prevent an iPhone X from charging.
8. Apply Heat To iPhone X
Ok, so here is another strange one, but a lot of these DIY fixes are. The application of head is due to the fact that some iPhone X’s can have a build up of moisture or even water within the speakers or phone itself.
When this happens, it can prevent the iPhone X from having any sound at all. Also if you have dropped your iPhone in water recently, this can also prevent it from having any sound. So if this sounds (pun intended) like you, this might be your fix!
So to fix this, take a hairdryer and apply heat around the grill of the iPhone X on low for a couple of minutes. Be carful not to overheat the iPhone X, but rather apply consistent low heat that will hopefully evaporate any excess moisture.
9. Update Your iOS
If you are still on iOS11, this actually may be a cause for your iPhone X to have no sound. There have been multiple reports stating the there is no sound on notifications or videos when updating to iOS 11.
To make sure your are on the latest version of iOS, you can check updates in your iPhone X settings > About > Updates. Alternatively, you can plug your iPhone X into a laptop and download the latest version via iTunes.

I have an iPhone X with at first intermittent sound loss, now the phone will not ring no alarm no loud speaker ear speaker during calls is scratchy and works intermittently. Also touch/vibration is intermittent as well. I replaced loud speaker, ear speaker with prox sensor. Re-installed iOS 14.6. Checked all flex cable connections. Audio works with headphones hard wired & Bluetooth. Microphone works perfectly. One thing I’ve noticed is when I go into settings and interact with any buttons in the sound / hepatics menu the phone Freezes for 10-15 seconds each time I press a button. It hasn’t happened for a couple days but the phone will reset itself out of no where.
It has an aftermarket battery & LCD screen not OLED If that could matter. When I receive a call while headphones are in the ring tone does not come through the head phones. But I can hear and talk to the caller. Everything in my history points to software or the audio IC is slightly damaged.

Update* I went to Apple.com and registered for iOS 15 beta. After that was done all sound came back. Some type of software glitch in iOS 14.6 that restore was unable to fix.
