1. Turning Off The iPhone X Is Different From Later Models
If you have being trying todo the traditional method of pressing and holing down the sleep/wake button to turn off your iPhone X. This is actually not the case for this newer model of the iPhone X.
To turn off, you will now instead need to press the volume down button and the sleep/wake button together until you are promoted to turn off the device.
This change is because the sleep/wake button has now been reassigned for Siri, SOS and ApplePay for the iPhone X.
2. Restart iPhone X If Device Is Frozen
If your iPhone X has frozen and not responding to any commands, then this is a sure fire solution.
To begin, quickly press the volume up button for 1 second. Once, done, quickly do the same for the volume down button.
After this, then press and hold onto the sleep/wake button for 20 seconds or until the Apple logo appears. If the logo does appear, this means you have successfully restarted your iPhone X.
This step is done to remove any temporary software glitches that may have occurred. This restart will also NOT delete any of your data.
3. Shutdown Via iPhone Settings
If the above methods did not work, you can still turn off your iPhone X within the settings of the phone itself. This can be done by going to Settings > General > Shutdown (located down the bottom of the screen).
As a side note, if your iPhone X is functioning correctly, see if the volume buttons or silent switch is working. You will see a screen appear if you make volume changes.
If you don’t see any changes on the screen, there may be some issues with your iPhone X buttons (more on that below).
This step should hopefully fix the iPhone X won’t turn off issue.

For an extra step, you can actually turn off your iPhone X using assistive touch if your buttons are failing to work.
To access assistive touch, you can do this by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch. Once you have activated Assistive Touch, a new screen will appear on your iPhone X which you can move around and access settings from.

If your iPhone still won’t turn off, there is a possibility that both your screen and tactile buttons may be malfunctioning. If this is the case for the buttons, there is a possibility that there may be some dirt built up preventing the buttons from functioning.
To try and fix this, you can blow into both the volume and power button to try and dislodge any dust and dirt.
